On Tuesday 3rd of November, the Chair of the APPG on Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), Michelle Welsh MP, spoke in the Westminster Hall debate 'Equality Act 2010 Guidance: Gynaecological Conditions'. The debate considered the potential merits of adding gynaecological conditions to Equality Act 2010 guidance and saw parliamentarians share experiences from constituents suffering from conditions including endometriosis, fibroids, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and PMOS.

Speakers highlighted the unpredictable nature of these conditions, and how this is being overlooked in some workplaces because these conditions are not reflected in existing guidance.

The Group’s Chair described how PMOS, as a metabolic and endocrine condition, can affect daily life. She called for earlier diagnosis, clear workplace guidance, consistent access to care and, ultimately, greater awareness of the condition.

Sir Alec Shelbrooke MP, an Officer of the APPG, also raised concerns in the debate, stressing the need for specific guidance on gynaecological conditions so that employers recognise the severity of their impact.

The APPG welcomes this opportunity to raise awareness within Parliament of the ways in which PMOS impacts the lives of those affected by it and will continue to advocate for adequate support. We will also work to ensure PMOS is a priority in future guidance on gynaecological conditions.
